Since her divorce 10 years earlier, Jenny Rogers has lived an uneventful life as the owner of Real Books (which she fears is failing.) Her life is thrown into turmoil three days before Thanksgiving of 2019 when Charlie Stockton walks into her store hoping to sell his family’s collection of antique books. Recognizing Jenny from high school 20 years earlier, Charlie mentions a fairy tale she wrote but she doesn’t recall it. Jenny tells him she can’t accept his books because her busiest season is about to begin but will look at his library and advise him about selling it.
Two days later, Jenny’s college son Marcus and ex-husband David arrive. Marcus mentions that David just lost his job, apartment, and girlfriend and suggests that Jenny help him out. Jenny sees a way to free herself from her responsibilities at the bookstore so she can sell Charlie’s books and make enough commission to save her business. What she does not see coming is the awkward dance that develops as her heart pulls her toward Charlie at the same time David tries to reignite their romance.
